Return to the Banyan Tree - Ras Al Khamiah UAE

The community swimming pool near our house has been having maintenance work on it for the past few months, but to our delight on Thursday it finally re-opened.

So, that was it, our weekend planned, to fry and frazzle in the sunshine and start getting our tans on the go. We sat out for quite a few hours on Friday, but on Saturday it was really busy and it got to the point that it really wasn't relaxing any more.

So, we went home, quick shower and change and we went off to the Banyan Tree Beach Resort for a cheeky afternoon drink.

I have written about the Banyan Tree before (here), but it's so special there, it deserves more then one post! We took the small boat across the water, which really is a treat in itself. Maybe it's just me, but I love boats and no matter how short the boat ride is, it's always fun!

The temperature was beautiful with a slight breeze. Just as remembered, the atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing. I had my usual Singapore Sling and hubby had a diet coke (designated driver and zero tolerance in the UAE).

We haven't been there in a while and kind of 'forgotten' we had it right on our doorstep. I think sometimes you can get carried away and wrapped up in work commitments and life, that you forget to enjoy yourselves and take some time out. We've made a conscious decision to start visiting these cool places more, as it doesn't always have to cost the earth to enjoy them.

It is important in life to enjoy your surroundings, no matter where your location is. Especially being an expat and living overseas, I think it's doubly important to make the most of things, as even if there's no intention of moving on, in the expat world things can change so quickly, so unexpectedly, it is important to make the most of what we're lucky enough to have around us.

  1. This place looks idyllic. You are so lucky to have it on your doorstep, but as you say sometimes we get so wrapped up in life we forget they are there! Can't remember from your posts when you had your 'mushroom' cut but boy has your hair grown! Must be all that lovely sunshine. I need some! x

    1. Ahhh thanks hun, yeah we're very lucky! It is lovely, so relaxing.... Erm, my mushroom hair was cut last August (think I mentioned it in a post the other day, about the Spanish house) It has had a bit of a growth spurt lately, thank god! Looking forward to my trip to the hairdressers next month, in need of a decent cut! x x : )
