Cairo - Egyptian Museum & The Pyramids of Giza

A couple of weeks a go hubby had to go to Cairo for meetings and I naturally jumped at the chance to tag along!

We flew from Sharjah to Cairo on Air Arabia, which was about a four hour flight. I was quite surprised as I thought the UAE was closer to Egypt, as four hours is about the same time from the UK.

Anyway, once we landed we were whizzed off in our own private transport (I feel like a celeb sometimes when I travel with hubby, hehe) and we were met by The Fairmont representative (as we were staying at their hotel) he immediately sorted out our visa on arrival and whizzed us through to our awaiting car.

We stayed at the Fairmont Heliopolis which was a really, really nice hotel. The foyer was very grand with a relaxing atmosphere. We were upgraded to a pool view which was lovely.

The room to us felt like a typical 'American' style hotel room. It was a little on the small side, but the huge luxurious bed with the comfiest mattress ever made up for it!

Lot's of T.V channels to choose from, fruit in the room with a welcome note, great selection of amenities! Let's be honest, we all love a free soap and shower cap, haha! Not forgetting the most important thing - free Wifi!

After a fantastic nights sleep, we pigged out at the breakfast buffet, serious carb overload. I always get so giddy with the croissants and muffins, it's like I've never eaten them before!

Hubby went off to work for the day and I was left to my own devices at the hotel.

Of course I headed to the pool. Which I'm sure you would of noticed a few pictures popping up on my Instagram of the complimentary juice shots that were being offered. They were delicious! I couldn't get enough of them!

After a few hours of sunning myself and bracing the freezing cold pool for a swim, I headed back up to the room for hubby to return and we were taken out for a lovely dinner by his work colleagues.

The next day we were treated to a complimentary tour of the Egyptian Museum and The Pyramids of Giza!

Absolutely fantastic experience and I would recommend this to everyone!! I am so thankful and grateful to hubby's work colleagues for arranging this for us. We really have been given a taster and I'm itching to go back and explore more!

We started off at the Egyptian Museum. Lovely grounds and absolutely amazing inside. (Cameras aren't allowed inside, so you have to leave them at a deposit box by the entrance).

Our guide took us around, but there was so much to see you could easily spend all day in there. Don't expect a fancy European museum, to me this literally just seemed a space to house the artifacts.

I'm obsessed with the tomb paintings and the artwork. So many hidden messages in the drawings, that I'm sure we'll never really know the correct meaning of it all!

We crossed over the Nile River on our way to Giza. We hopped out to take a few quick snaps!

On to the Pyramids!!

So giddy like children.

Our guide wanted to give us a big long talk about them all, but hubby and I just wanted to run off, take pictures, touch the pyramids and just be in awe of them!

We stood there for a few minutes, under the red hot sun listening to our guide, before we were let loose to do as we pleased!

And you can't go to the Pyramids without taking a couple of these pics!

One last look before we head to the Sphinx!

Through the Valley Temple....

  1. What a great post and wow what great photos! I would love to see the pyramids but I'm not sure Egypt appeals to me as a country (sorry Egypt!), but who knows maybe one day. It always amazes me when you see them on TV, all that work, so seeing them so close must be mind blowing. And what hospitality, you were a lucky girl! xx
