February 2012 we went to the Maldives for a week for my 30th birthday. We stayed at Anantara Veli (here) which was absolutely stunning.
A small one minute boat ride takes you between the two islands. You are free to use the facilities and restaurants on each. We stayed on Veli most of the time, but on my actual birthday we did go over to the Italian restaurant on Dhigu, which was overlooking the sea and very tranquil. I was surprised to a gorgeous chocolate cake and an assortment of desserts.
The breakfast buffet was also absolutely stunning and the staff were all so friendly, helpful and welcoming, definitely an asset to the resort. I strongly recommend the Thai restaurant on Veli. This was mine and my husbands favorite. You need to get there early to be able to sit on the outside overlooking the sea. The food and service were perfection. We loved it so much!
Most of the time it felt like we were on our very own private island, beautiful white sand and lush turquoise waters. We were very lucky with our water bungalow, as it had steps that took you directly into the sea and there wasn't any coral surrounding the steps, so it was ideal to be able to go for a dip.
We had an absolutely amazing time there and are desperate to go back. Sometimes in that environment you could possibly feel 'bored', but for us it was perfectly relaxing.
I loved the small touches around the pool, as you were offered free bottled water and in the afternoon they would come round with smoothie shots or refreshing fruits. They had thought of everything. We cannot fault Anantara Veli one bit.
We have recommended the island to a few of our friends and they had exactly the same experience.
Just stunning. Absolutely amazing island.
Just a selection of photos, we took so many it's crazy!
Working in the airline industry my husband and I have been lucky enough to visit a couple of other islands in the Maldives with our jobs, but Anantara Veli is far the best!
Looking at these photos it's making me want to go back more then ever!
