We went to Munich back in December 2012! I can't believe it's almost two years ago, times sure flies. Anyway, we went to visit their famous Christmas Market. I had never been before so I was super excited and it didn't disappoint.
We stayed at The Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre. We were very impressed. The location was fantastic. The hotel was only about a ten min walk to Marienplatz Central Square, where the Christmas Market is held.
It was so easy to get to the hotel. The train goes directly from the airport, literally to The Holiday Inn! The train ride took about 45mins. The station is right next to the hotel and you don't even have to go outside, as the hotel has an entrance from inside the arcade.
Thoroughly recommend the hotel, it was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities in your room. Pretty much a must for me and hubs, we do love to have a cuppa in the morning and before bed haha! Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was amazing! Seriously, I think that could of been one of the highlights of our trip! Haha... We could of sat in there for hours! Everything you could imagine, eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, bread, pastries, tea, coffee, juices etc etc.. It was a couple of years ago now so I can't remember exactly what there was, but I do remember we raved about it all day and we completely pigged out on it!
Marienplatz Central Square was heaving! So busy, loads of different market stalls, selling all kinds of Christmas treats. We stopped off for regular Gluhwein breaks, which was delicious! Completely hooked. It certainly warms your insides, as it was freezing! You did need a warm drink to keep you going and of course a little alcohol buzz never hurts anybody, hehe! (insert winky face).
We were planning to eat at the famous Hofbrauhaus, but it was soo busy and I needed to eat asap! If you know me, when I'm hungry, I'm hungry, it needs to fed immediately, haha. Right opposite was the Hard Rock Cafe. Which is one of my faves and it didn't disappoint! Tasty food, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff, what more do you want!
Make sure you're in the square for midday, as when the clock chimes the figurines dance around, It's quite magical. We had a great time there, along with drinking Gluhwein, having a Bratwurst from one of the stalls is a must! I've found a website here that gives you loads of information about the German Christmas Markets, wish I knew about it before we went, maybe we could of squeezed more in!
It was a fabulous couple of days away, even though it was flippin' cold, we loved every minute and would highly recommend it. It really got us into the Christmas spirit, especially coming from the warmth of Dubai! Writing this post is making me want to go back!! Let me know if you've been or planning on going and don't forget to wrap up warm!
